Indie rock band Portastatic founded in 1992 as a solo project of Mac McCaughan, singer and guitarist of Superchunk. Portastatic became McCaughan's full-time group and a real band with revolving membership. The band draws from multiple genres, including lo-fi Brazilian music and rock and roll.
