Mellow post-grunge rockers Matchbox Twenty worked their way toward hit status, driven by the angst-ridden vocals of Rob Thomas. Upon the release of their debut album in 1996, Matchbox 20 was pigeonholed as one of the legions of post-grunge guitar bands that roamed the American pop scene in the 1990s. They released five studio albums: Yourself or Someone Like You (1996), Mad Season (2000), More Than You Think You Are (2002), North (2012), and Where the Light Goes (2023).
