Alternative country band Lucero was formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1998. Their style has been described as alternative rock, country punk, heartland rock, Memphis soul, and blues rock. Formed by leader Ben Nichols, Lucero took their name from the Spanish word meaning "bright star."
