Southern rock band Black Oak Arkansas put a tough, gritty spin on the high volume hard rock boogie that was popular in the '70s. Their style is punctuated by multiple guitar players and the raspy voice and on stage antics of vocalist Jim "Dandy" Mangrum. High on the Hog is the most commercially successful album by the band. The album prominently featured southern electric guitar licks and Mangrum's scratchy, hillbilly vocals.
