British pop group Bananarama embodied so much of the bespangled excess of the '80s that they came to define at least a portion of the decade. The trio cultivated a strong following in U.S. dance clubs, which helped their single "Cruel Summer" become a Top Ten hit in 1984 and eventually led to the international blockbuster "Venus" in 1986.
