BABYMETAL is a Japanese kawaii metal band. The band was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of Suzuka Nakamoto as Su-metal, Moa Kikuchi as Moametal, and Yui Mizuno as Yuimetal, with the concept of creating a fusion of the heavy metal and Japanese idol genres. The band's name is a combination of "baby" (ベビー) and "heavy metal" (ヘビーメタル), and the Japanese pronunciation rhymes with "heavy metal".
