Their music is best known for its merging of dissonant guitar textures, androgynous vocals, and unorthodox production techniques. They helped to pioneer the alternative rock subgenre known as shoegazing during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band released several successful EPs and the albums Isn't Anything (1988) and Loveless (1991), often described as their magnum opus and one of the best albums of the 1990s.

Interpol is one of the bands associated with the New York indie music scene and one of several groups that emerged from the post-punk revival of the 2000s. The band gained mainstream recognition in the mid 1990s, during the third wave of ska with the release of the gold certified album Turn the Radio Off. The Subways are an English rock band, formed in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, in 2000. The Undertones are a rock band formed in Derry, Northern Ireland in 1974. Though they came from a conflict-torn city at an extraordinary time, their music was not about politics or protests. Instead, they created their own brand of infectious punk pop and sang adolescent anthems about ordinary yet universal themes such as teenage angst, finding a girlfriend and having annoyingly flawless relatives. Singles such as Teenage Kicks, Jimmy Jimmy and My Perfect Cousin soared up the charts and the band made numerous appearances on shows such as Top Of The Pops and The Old Grey Whistle Test.

Weezer is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1992. As one of the most popular groups to emerge in the post-grunge alternative rock aftermath, Weezer received equal amounts of criticism and praise for their hook-heavy guitar pop. Drawing from the heavy power pop of arena rockers like Cheap Trick and the angular guitar leads of the Pixies, Weezer leavened their melodies with doses of '70s metal gleaned from bands like Kiss. What truly set the band apart, though, was their geekiness. Weezer has sold 10.2 million albums in the US and over 35 million worldwide.
